Henry, DVM
In
December of 1978 my wife Kathy, our dog Buzzsaw, and I moved
to Springfield Ohio and took ownership of Northwood
Veterinary Hospital. The past 29 years of practicing
veterinary medicine has proved both challenging and
rewarding in my efforts to provide and maintain the health
and wellbeing of all the many pets that have passed through
our doors. My love for animals was instilled at an early
age growing up on the family farm near Wilmington, Ohio.
From being active in 4H and the many years living and
working the farm, I just knew I wanted to be a
veterinarian.
I
attended Ohio State University and was fortunate to be
accepted into the College of Veterinary Medicine after 3
years of undergraduate study. In 1970 I graduated with
honors with my DVM degree. I then accepted a position in
Greensburg, Indiana with a farm animal/small animal group
practice that lasted 8 years.
While in Indiana I met my future wife Kathy, a Ball State
University graduate and elementary school teacher. We’ve
now been married 32 years.
Kathy and I have been blessed with 3 children. Our oldest,
Rachael is a 1998 Springfield North graduate, 2002 DePauw
University graduate who is now married (Matt DeLeon) and
lives and works in Columbus, Ohio. Our second daughter,
Adrienne also graduated from Springfield North in 2000; Ohio
University in 2005 and lives and teaches in and elementary
school in Jacksonville, Florida. Lastly our youngest son,
Michael graduated Springfield North in 2005 and attends
Capital University majoring in Accounting.
Outside of practice, Kathy and I have tried to be active and
giving back to our community. We were both active in school
boosters clubs and we supported our children in all their
school program and athletics.
We
have both been active as deacons and elders in our church.
I have been a member, past president, and Melvin Jones award
recipient with Northridge Lion Club. I am a lifetime member
and past president f The Ohio State University Alumni
Association. Yes, I do bleed scarlet and gray!
Kathy has been president or chairman of the Springfield
Junior Service League, Clark County Relay for Life, New
Neighbors league, Wittenberg Guild and Springfield Arts
Council.
Kathy and I believe that Clark County and Springfield is a
great place to be part of and to live.
